The living rooms

The ground floor runs in a line: entrance hall, sitting room, dining room, each opening into the next through a stone arch. The hall was left to do its own work — a long run of terracotta, a console, a bench, the light falling in at both ends — and the rooms either side were furnished to be lived in rather than looked at.

Upstairs the same corridor logic holds, narrower and plainer, with a painted settee and a commode where there is room for them.
