Studio

Deniz Önel was born in Turkey and has made Tuscany her home for more than twenty years. She trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti and took a master’s in interior and furniture design; her studio designs private homes from the first wall that comes down to the last switch plate.

Much of what you see here was drawn rather than bought: a library of bronze and ash, an onyx bar lit from within, a table built around a tree. Each piece is made with Tuscan workshops — joiners, metalworkers, stone yards — and every room is lit as carefully as it is furnished.

Deniz trained first as a sculptor, and it shows in the way she handles a room: as volumes, light and surfaces you want to touch. The studio is based in Prato and works across Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, most often with the same small circle of workshops, from the first survey to the day the keys are handed over.
