The GuestHouse

The GuestHouse is half of a larger project: two independent houses facing each other across a large park, with a pool and a tennis court, in the hills of Sasso Marconi. The GuestHouse was already lived in. The other, Il Fienile, the old hay barn, was rebuilt from the ground up.

When I met the owners, the plan was to design Il Fienile entirely and give the GuestHouse a much lighter restyling, mostly a new lighting design. As we went on, they asked for more: colour, fabrics, materials. So the work reached the living areas, the living room and the TV room, the bedrooms, above all the master, and the bathrooms.

Everything was decided a step at a time, alongside the work on Il Fienile, and that gave me the time to get to know Rebecca and Joe, their taste and the way they really live. The interventions were modest; the result speaks for itself. The GuestHouse is now a collection of rooms that are entirely theirs: more practical, more comfortable and more beautiful, with original paintings by Toby Klayman in the loft bedroom.
